Scotch Plains, a township located in Union County, New Jersey, is home to about 23,510 residents. As early as 1684, Scottish Quakers and Europeans began settling in the region. The township is said to have been named after George Scott who led a group of Scottish settlers to the area. Scotch Plains was originally incorporated as Fanwood Township in 1878. Scotch Plains received its current name on March 29th, 1917.

Scotch Plains is home to several notable attractions. Shackamaxon Country Club, a private golf course, swimming, and tennis facility, was founded in 1916. The country club boasts of over 130 acres of beauty and history. The township is also home to the Scotch Hills Country Club, which was at one time the only exclusively African-American country club in the United States. The Osborn Cannonball House, an attraction guaranteed to be pleasing to history enthusiasts, is operated by the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Historical Society, founded in 1972. The house was built in the early 1700s and was struck by a cannonball during a retreat of American soldiers during the Revolutionary War. For those looking to increase their knowledge of the area, the historical society offers guest lectures once a month on the Scotch Plains area as well as the neighboring Fanwood area.
