Manalapan Township, located in the western portion of Monmouth County, New Jersey, is a suburban community of about 38,872. The township lies 45 miles southwest of New York City and about 15 miles from the Jersey Shore. The township derives its name from a Lenape Indian word meaning “good land to settle upon.” Portions of the Battle of Monmouth were fought on land located in Manalapan. The battle took place in 1778 when troops from the Continental Army under the command of George Washington attacked the British Army during the American Revolutionary War.

Manalapan has many attractions, especially for those who love history and the outdoors. The Monmouth Battlefield State Park occupies 2,928 acres in parts of both the Manalapan and Freehold townships. The park is primarily made up of beautiful fields and forests. Hiking and horseback riding are available as well as picnic areas and also a restored farmhouse. Manalapan also has an attractive recreation center that covers 162 acres. The park offers activities such as baseball, disc golf, a fitness trail, football fields and two picnic areas. Manalapan Under the Stars is an annual community event hosted by the township at the Recreation Center that features concerts, rides, fireworks, and other activities.

Although the months of summer tend to be mild with daytime averages ranging from the low to mid-80s, humidity is often very high. The summer season in Manalapan also sees plenty of rain.
